About Wendy

Wendy MacGown lives in Massachusetts on the North Shore. For four decades, she’s held various tech jobs, more than half as a tech writer. Now retired, she can write what she wants.

She moderates the Witch City Writer’s Workshop Meetup (Salem, MA), and attends Boston area Sci-Fi/Fantasy Book Club meetups. In 2023, she attended the San Francisco Writer’s Conference. For two years following a Writer’s Grotto novel writing workshop, she’s peer edited with two writers.

She’s won Society of Technical Communicator (STC) awards for excellence, distinction, and merit as well as awards for fiction, including short stories and self-published novels.

  • Resistance:  Three hundred years into the dystopian future, skilled administrator, Jane Murphy, grieving the loss of fertility and bent on revenge, learns the true meaning of family.
  • Fierce Innocence:  Devout Quaker, Rhoda Mott, embraces the gift of forgiveness in the face of abandonment, betrayal, and infidelity at the turn of the 19th Century.

  • Wendy, a 44-year veteran of Boston-area high tech, writes of the mini-computer boom of the 1980s in Megabyte Rush. This experienced tech writer knows the drill.
  • Little Sister and Big Sister, deal with the adoption triad: child, birthparents and adoptive parents. Having adopted twice, it’s part of her life.
  • The Crystal Fishbowl depicts the violence against women—especially preacher’s wives—in the New England Baptist community. She draws on her childhood, growing up Baptist.

  • Little Sister and The Crystal Fishbowl won honorable mention at the Arizona Author’s Association’s 2005 Literary Contest.
  • Little Sister was a finalist for ForWord Magazine’s 2006 Book of the Year contest.
  • Society for Technical Communication awards for merit, excellence, and distinction.
